Cozumel Cave Archive
This archive documents known underwater cave systems beneath the island of Cozumel. These caves formed within the island’s limestone bedrock through karst dissolution and were later flooded as sea levels rose following the last ice age.

Documented Cave Systems
Aerolito Cave System
One of the best known cave systems on Cozumel located near the island’s western shoreline.
Chempita (Jade Cenote)
Deep inland cenote cave near El Cedral reaching depths of approximately 160 feet.
Cocodrilo Cave System
Small tannic cenote located on the grounds of one of the beach resorts south of San Miguel.
Cueva Quebrada (Chankanaab)
Coastal cave system located near the Chankanaab area of the island.
Sin Nombre Cave System
Shoreline cave system accessed through cenotes near the cruise terminal area.
Tres Potrillos
Small jungle cenote leading to a decorated cave chamber with a deep pit reaching about 125 feet.
Kuuchi T’uuchtaj Cave System
Recently discovered cave system explored through Cenote El Poso and Cenote Los Caballos.
